Amos Leslie Towle was the first husband of Lulu Cadwell and the biological father of Malcolm A. Goodwin.

On December 24, 1903, he married his first wife, Lulu Cadwell, at her parents' home. She was dressed in white chiffon over taffeta with point lace and carried a bouquet of twenty American Beauty roses with ferns. After the ceremony, she was presented with beautiful gifts of silver and cut glass. The couple embarked on a brief trip, from which they returned to live in Torrington, Connecticut. They had one child, listed below, in 1907. In September 1910, tensions between their marriage resulted in a complete separation in terms of living conditions for eighteen months. On December 23, 1911, Lulu discovered that her husband, Amos, was having an affair with another woman. She immediately filed for divorce for improper conduct with another woman, a claim that was granted in late March 1912. During the proceedings, she refused to live with her husband. After it was granted, she was completely removed from her husband and custody of her child was accepted.
