Crosby, Ebenezer (West Hartford Quaker)

Ebenezer Crosby's obituary, Nov. 1807.

Ebenezer Crosby (1740 - November 12, 1807) was a member of the West Hartford, Connecticut Society of Friends as a Quaker.

Crosby was born in 1740 in West Hartford, Connecticut, as the son of Ebenezer Crosby and Mehitable Baker. He grew up in the area and settled down in West Hartford after his marriage in 1763. He was a member of the Quaker Society of Friends and in 1799 hosted the traveling Quaker preacher Elias Hicks in his home. From Hicks' religious journal, he recounts: "After this meeting, we passed directly to West Hartford, and lodged with our friend Ebenezer Crosby, whose daughter Abigail had come in company with us from Nine Partners [Meeting House]. She was a discreet religious young women, whose mind I apprehended, was under the operation of the forming hand, for her good; may she be preserved in faith and patience, under the varied turnings thereof upon her; and then, I have no doubt, she will become a useful member in the Church."

On November 12, 1807, Crosby died in West Hartford, Connecticut, at the age of 67.
