Pomeroy (Sedgwick), Elizabeth Mason

Sedgwick's obituary, 1827.

Elizabeth Mason Sedgwick (April 30, 1775 - October 15, 1827) was a resident of Southbridge, Massachusetts.

Sedgwick was born on April 30, 1775 in western Massachusetts as the daughter of Theodore Sedgwick and Pamela Dwight. She grew up in western Massachusetts throughout the better portion of her childhood and early adulthood, raised by her mother alone, due to her father's absence in politics. After her marriage in 1797, she removed to Southbridge, Massachusetts, where she lived for the remainder of her life.

On October 15, 1827, Sedgwick died in Stockbridge, Massachusetts as a result of a second paralytic attack. Her obituary in the Christian Register notes: "We will not pretend to give an outline of the character of this excellent woman - it is pre-eminently engraven upon the hearts of all who had the pleasure to know her - suffice it to say, Mrs. Pomeroy possessed every social and Christian grace - her charities were felt and acknowledged - her care and solicitude for the needy and the sick were not often equaled - these, to say nothing of her affectionate relatives and friends, will shed the tear of sorrow over the remains of their departed friend and benefactor."
