Washington, William Temple

William Temple Washington's tombstone.

William Temple Washington (June 15, 1800 - April 20, 1877) was a resident of his estate of Megwillie, West Virginia, and Virginia.

Washington was born on June 15, 1800 in Harewood, Jefferson County, West Virginia, as the son of George Steptoe Washington and Lucy Payne. He grew up in West Virginia and attended the local school in the area. In 1828, he took a piece of the Harewood land from his family and built a house that he called Megwillie. This house the family did not keep for very long becasue around 1856, before the American Civil War, they had left the county and had gone down to live near Fredericksburg.

On April 20, 1877, Washington died in Falmouth, Virginia.
